INTRODUCTION TO OUR LABORATORY

The research effort of our group is focused on the use of Chemistry toward developing processes, chemicals & materials that may allow industry to use the renewable carbon that is present in our trees. To do this, the detailed reactions occuring in Lignin and Cellulose during biomass transformation processes are closely examined.

Our work involves the use of Organic Chemistry,Analytical Chemistry of Complex Organic Materials as well Material and Polymer Science.

More specific topics include: Biomimetic & Organometallic catalysis in oxidations of aromatic substrates; Solvents for Green Chemistry, Ionic Liquids , Novel Wood Composites.

A recent thrust in our work also involves the creation of novel, smart, stimuli-responsive nano-materials based on Cellulose nano crystals.
